Hi Madeeha,

That's pretty much the central argument of the trojan exosome hypothesis--the proteins are all the same. If you are trying to separate the two, you need to use a viral protein (gp41). As far as I know, there are no known markers that exist on exosomes and not viral particles--unless you believe the paper above.

Good luck with your studies.

Hi Michael,

I am a graduate student working with HIV.
Actually , I am planning to isolate exosomes from HIv infected cells, and while searching literature on internet, I also saw this blog of yours.
I am currently reading this paper in retrovirolgy, and I think your comments are quite critical and logical.
But still I am unable to find a marker which is present exclusively on exososmes and not on HIV particles. Would you like to share your view on this?

Best Regards
Madeeha
